Where it started
Brazos acquired another company in early 2025. The bookkeeping became a multi-entity structure across the US and Australia, with two currencies, GST obligations and years of inconsistent treatment. The Vice President, Kingsley Umeh, inherited a system he could not rely on.
What the books were hiding
- GST recorded as revenue, inflating income.
- An inaccurate balance sheet and unclear partner contributions.
- Errors across banking, equity, AR/AP, foreign currency and payroll.
- Payroll entries missing after a Rippling sync failed.
What we did
- Diagnostic review of the QuickBooks Online file and a cleanup roadmap.
- Reconciled bank and credit card accounts, removing duplicates and recreating missing transactions.
- Moved GST from revenue to GST Payable (AUD), corrected ATO payments and set up AUD customer profiles so QuickBooks calculates FX gains and losses.
- Rebuilt AR and AP aging, tracing historical matches through audit logs and bank activity.
- Consolidated equity into paid-in capital, reclassified opening balance equity and kept intercompany transfers off the P&L.
- Mapped the payroll reconstruction and prepared the integration for reconnection.
- Weekly updates, Loom walkthroughs and reconciliation notes for a clear audit trail.
Result
An accurate balance sheet, GST tracked as a liability, every bank account reconciled through the available statements (September 2025), rebuilt AR/AP aging and a standard multi-currency workflow. Brazos kept its books and got a path forward, instead of deciding whether to restart from scratch.
“Today, our books are clear, accurate, and finally aligned with how the business actually operates.”
